Following their ‘06 single ‘Strangers/This Song,’ Modernage hit the road. After making stops in NYC, Los Angeles and Mexico, it was time to work on new material. Fall of ‘07 was filled with stops and starts, writing spurts and purges, and fruitless recording sessions. Out of the chaos, came five songs which stood out as a singular statement.
The ‘Sirhan Sirhan EP’ builds on Modernage’s signature sound and takes off in a new direction. Urgency permeates the record as if the band was ready to run off the rails if needed. Recorded in their new home studio, the‘Sirhan Sirhan EP’ is the product of musicians honing their craft. ‘The Victim’ starts off the record with pounding drums and an overblown synth culminating in Giancarlo’s affective chorus. ‘Somewhere’ is alternative pop rock at it’s finest. It’s reggae influenced verses give way to an anthem-like outro unlike anything Modernage has done before. ‘Creatures’ is heart of the record. It’s beautiful guitar harmonies, tight rhythm section, and vocal melodies are perfectly crafted to tug at the heartstrings. In ‘7/9/12’ the band show their electronic side with a four on the floor dance track perfectly suited for space travel. Featuring a driving bassline, memorable guitar riffs, and Giancarlo’s crooning, the title track ‘Sirhan Sirhan’ closes out the record by doing what Modernage does best.
